The San Luis Obispo Children's Museum

Inspiring Learning Through Play

The “Light A Creative Spark” Capital Campaign will make possible the grand opening of the new San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum.

The Capital Campaign was launched to support the building of the new Museum which will expand exhibits for a broader range of children and provide an environment where families can connect in meaningful ways for decades to come.

The new Museum will be a three-story, 8,400 square foot center with 21 indoor and outdoor learning environments that stimulate curiosity and discovery through play. Parents and caregivers can share moments of wonder with their children, away from the distractions of everyday life.

Our goal is to provide greater visitor capacity and exhibit variety to satisfy the great demand for a high-quality, child-centered informal learning destination on the California Central Coast. Your help is essential to the success of this worthy community project.

About the Museum

For 15 years, the San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum served the community in a 2,200 square foot space where attendance approached 40,000 visitors annually.  In 2002, a decision was made to build a new Museum.  The new Museum is scheduled to open in Spring 2008 with stimulating indoor and outdoor environments that provoke curiosity and imagination and provide opportunities to explore, investigate and create in the arts, sciences and humanities. The new Museum will be a place for families to have fun and learn together.

3 Ways To Donate

(Fifteen (15) percent of all donations will be allocated to the operating costs of the Museum, unless a donor specifies otherwise)

"Some people talk about play as if it were a relief from serious learning or even worse: a waste of time. But for children, play is exceedingly serious...and important! In fact, play is a way for children to learn who they are, how the world works, solve problems and to express feelings.
Yes, play is the real work of childhood"
